The journey toward self-understanding and compassion begins in collaboration. In this discovery of life it is understandable that at times one experiences painful and difficult emotions. Have you ever thought, "Why am I in this painful relationship?" "Why am I depressed, anxious or overeating?" By asking tough questions, you will explore how painful internal experiences are manifesting. Dr. Faris' approach to therapy is best defined as eclectic, as she tends to view her clients from many different theoretical standpoints. She has been trained in Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She utilizes these and other modalities to provide the most appropriate care for each person who comes to her, individualizing treatment plans to personal needs and preferences.
COUPLES COUNSELING:
Relationships can become a major source of stress and overwhelm in tough times such as these. When emotions rise, logic subsides. Disagreements lead to increased defenses, which can most often lead to resentment, a toxin that can kill a relationship. Dr. Faris' approach to couples counseling is dynamic. She focuses on communication, acceptance, understanding, and listening just to name a few. She is solution focused when it comes to couples counseling, and has had much success in this area.
FAMILY THERAPY:
Often times the stresses of life affect the whole family. If a child struggles in school, the family struggles. If a parent loses his/her job, the whole family loses an income. If there is depression and/or anxiety in the home, it becomes contageous and all family members suffer. Having the family together to find solutions to the problems being faced can be incredibly beneficial. Dr. Faris has helped many families to get back on track and to enjoy being together again.
CHILD/PLAY THERAPY:
Dr. Faris invests so much in the children with whom she works. "We love her," reports one parent who has brought her son to Dr. Faris for eight sessions the latter part of 2008. Having three children of her own, Dr. Faris realizes the importance of a child's voice being heard in a supportive and non-threatening environment. Dr. Faris' takes a unique and effective approach to child therapy.
She incorporates crafts, games, picnic time, and fun time into the sessions so as to create a comfortable environment for the child to open up and interact. Knowing that reinforcement is far more effective than punishment, Dr. Faris incorporates behavior modification, didactic training, and reinforcement for a multitude of psychological issues.
GROUP THERAPY:
The research has confirmed that group therapy is incredibly effective. To know that you are not dealing with a particular issue on your own, and that there are others who are experiencing the same issues, can be quite comforting. Dr. Faris has run a number of successful groups, the last of which being a Bipolar Disorder Group. She runs weight-loss groups, depression and anxiety groups, divorce recovery groups, and adolescent life-skills groups (to name a few). Dr. Faris is very careful to make sure everyone in the group understands confidentiality, and she provides a safe environment for people to share their struggles and successes.
EVALUATIONS:
Psychological evaluations are required for a variety of reasons. They are becoming necessary when a person chooses weight-loss surgery, when ran officer eturning to the police force, for employment purposes, and the list continues. Dr. Faris conducts psychological evaluations for weight-loss surgery patients, police departments, military personnel, and others who are requiring knowledge of their client's/patient's/employee's
psychological well-being. These evaluations are done with a quick turn-around time, and Dr. Faris chooses to keep her fee below the average cost for this service.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING:
Is your child struggling with grades and academic achievement? Do you wonder if it might be due to a potential learning disability? Is your child having problems in class behaviorally? Do you wonder if there might be an attention deficit issue? If you are concerned about your child and are needing an evaluation, psychological testing or behavior modification, Dr. Faris can help.
Learning disabilities, attention deficits and behavior problems at school often lead to a child's lack of confidence, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and/or other psychological issues.
For your child's sake, let Dr. Faris help to get a handle on these struggles early so that your child can reach his/her fullest potential. Adult evaluations are also conducted.
